Howard Lederer grew up in a family of 5 where he loved betting on different card games at a young age. He discovered himself getting very aggressive in the above-mentioned card games while playing his dad. After graduating from secondary school, Howard made a decision to put college on hold for a little while and moved to New York City to play some formidable chess. While competing in chess, he was introduced to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s first 2 years were tough as he would play extensive hours and don’t win most times. He made some additional money by being an assistant for the poker players. He theorized he possibly could better his game by analyzing his life outside of poker. He made an effort to acquire more rest and focus even more on poker.
The definite improvement in his game began when he began wagering at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the the most favorable players would often play against one another. Howard was able to access a few of the foremost players in chess. With their assistance, he would sharpen his logical thinking skills. He used these strategic concepts in the game of NL texas hold’em.
Howard also assisted his sibling Annie Duke learn the game of poker. She was a superb student of poker as she constantly asked questions about how to make the proper decision. He told Annie Duke to head out to Las Vegas and play in the World Series of Poker competition. Annie is one of the strongest women players the poker arena has ever seen. He moved to Las Vegas in 1993 and participated in cash games for the successive 10 years. When the WPT grew in popularity, he made the decision to compete in more tournaments.
