Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker competitor on the globe by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to pickup anything he could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the detrimental feedback from other people kill his ambition of being one of the strongest poker players in the world.
He began competing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching period and winning was not a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal love for the game of poker. Phil states that he is learning every day and is incredibly abashed about his success. He knows he makes errors every single game of poker and always aspires to improve.
Even though Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
