Holdem is all about individuals and position. All experienced Hold’em players concur that position in no limit Holdem is fundamentally important. Playing your hole cards in last position will be much more beneficial than in early poker position. This is because a lot more data is gathered prior to acting.
As an example, I played in a $1-$2 no limit cash match at a local casino. I came in holding 2, 9 unsuited on the croupier button, so I could see some action. Flop arrived A-A-4. A person in starting spot placed a $15 wager. 2 entrants fold and it was my turn to act. I should have folded, but his betting felt a bit odd. I labeled this person as a weak-tight person, and regularly if he held the best hand he would just check, so I called.
The turn arrived with a 7, meaning it was a A-A-4-7. My opposer made a further wager of $20. I debated for a while, but took a chance to re-raise an additional $30thirty dollars over and above his $20. He dropped out and I won the pot.
Wagering at late position allows you an insight into where you stand by observing how other entrants carry oneself and bet. On the other hand, players at starting spot may use their poker position to check-raise the late seated competitors and trap them afterwords at the end. In Texas Hold’em, each ends, late and starting must be played carefully.
