Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender on the globe by most of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandpa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he possibly could about the game. He routinely would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not let the negative feedback from other people destroy his goal of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.

Phil began competing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning opportunity and winning was not a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated many of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and a continuing passion for poker. Phil states that he’s learning every day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Even though Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
